Ballroom dancing and salsa
D.S.V. 4 happy feet is the student ballroom dancing association and the largest cultural association in Enschede. 4 happy feet organises dance classes at various levels, from beginner to competition level. As of 2007, we not only offer ballroom dancing classes, but also salsa lessons. In addition, you can dance for free twice a week at a dance centre in the city, and there are often extra activities. Examples include our annual team match, the ball and of course a final dance where you can earn certificate. We've also had a Rock&Roll, River Dance and even Lap Dance workshops! Upon request, 4 happy feet organises gala dance courses for other associations. For more information, go to www.4happyfeet.nl, or come along on a Tuesday evening, or a Monday evening in the Audio hall in the Vrijhof.
In the last few years, breakdance has been gaining popularity in the Netherlands. In 2001 several students became interested in this dance and started practising together. They even practised in shopping malls, where they were a welcome attraction for shoppers. This resulted in the founding of the first and only student breakdance association of the Netherlands, called "Break-Even". Break-Even often performs at events such as shows and demonstrations, including the introduction days, the "Batavierenfeest" and the information days. Break-Even has almost 30 members and its motto is " work hard and have fun". Besides practising three times a week, trips and events take place throughout the year, like the world championship breakdance, night out, demonstrations and dinners. We are always looking for new enthusiastic members, so feel free to come along to one of our practices. Are you interested??: www.breakdance.utwente.nl
Arabesque is a modern dance production group for students in Enschede, mainly from the UTwente and Saxion. In the technical and choreography lessons you can learn the modern dance technique and how you can make your own dance material and choreographies. There are 3 different groups in our association, classified per level from no experience to advanced. The lessons are in English and Dutch. Arabesque organises an annual major performance with dances made by teachers and members. In addition to all that our members also organize nice activities for each other, like workshops or a New Year's dinner. For more information visit: www.arabesque.utwente.nl/dance/
SDV Chassé is the newest addition to the cultural student associations. It was formed because four students thought that the UT would not be complete without a Jazz dance association. Jazz dance combines all kinds of different dance styles which results in a beautiful blend of elegant moves and determined street dance steps. There are two rehearsal groups, the beginners and the advanced group. This way you can join in at your own level. You will learn the techniques and choreography to top 40 and musical songs. Naturally, there are also performances. Chassé even were voted number one by the audience last Open Stage night. So, if you enjoy dancing, or want to find out what jazz dance is all about? Then drop by their rehearsals or visit the website: www.sdvchasse.utwente.nl
